چکیده

Abstract We image the spatial extent of a cool galactic outflow with fine-structure Fe ii * emission and resonant Mg in gravitationally lensed star-forming galaxy at z = 1.70347. The (continuum-subtracted) emissions span out to radial distances ∼14.33 26.5 kpc, respectively, maximum extents ∼21 kpc for ∼30 emission. is patchy covers total area ∼184 2 , constraining minimum covered by outflowing gas be ∼13% area. asymmetric shows ∼21% more extended along decl. direction. constrain covering fractions as function distance characterize them power-law model. 2803 line two kinematically distinct components may correspond shells velocity separation Δ v ∼ 400 km s −1 . By using multiple images different magnifications plane, we trace around three individual regions. In all cases, both are spatially compared regions traced [O ] These findings provide robust constraints on and, combined column density measurements, will give stringent mass-outflow rates galaxy.

Clumpy Dust Tori in Active Galactic Nuclei

Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) are amongst the most luminous objects in the universe. The source of their activity is accretion onto a supermassive black hole in the center of the galactic nucleus. The various phenomena observed in AGN are explained in a common unification scheme. The cornerstone of this unification scheme of AGN is the presence of an optically and geometrically thick dust torus ...

Clumpy tori around active galactic nuclei

We discuss the question whether the matter in dusty tori around active galactic nuclei has a smooth or a clumpy structure. Nenkova, Ivezic & Elitzur (2002) have argued that the lack of emission feature in the SEDs of type 1 AGN galaxies combined with a clear absorption feature in type 2 AGN can be explained if the circumnuclear dust is distributed in discrete clumps. Our aim is to verify this. ...

Chvcs: Galactic Building Blocks at Z = 0

A distinct sub-class of anomalous velocity H i emission features has emerged from recent high quality surveys of the Local Group environment, namely the compact high velocity clouds (CHVCs). A program of high-resolution imaging with the Westerbork array and the Arecibo telescope has begun to provide many insights into the nature of these objects. Elongated core components with a velocity gradie...

Synchronization of Spatially Extended Chaotic Systems with Asymmetric Coupling

In this paper, we report the consequences induced by the presence of asymmetries in the coupling scheme on the synchronization process of a pair of one-dimensional complex fields obeying Complex Ginzburg Landau equations. While synchronization always occurs for large enough coupling strengths, asymmetries have the effect of modifying synchronization thresholds and play a crucial role in selecti...

Clumpy winds and the obscuration of Active Galactic Nuclei

The role of star-formation driven outflows in the obscuration of the central source in the Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) is discussed. The outflow from a sub-parsec scale accretion disc is numerically modelled for parameters appropriate to the Galactic Centre. The resulting obscuration pattern is very patchy, with some lines of sight becoming optically thick to Thomson scattering. A fixed observ...
